A day after learning they’d host an NCAA regional for the fifth straight time, the Texas Tech baseball found out their seed in the national tournament.
The Red Raiders were tabbed a No. 8 national seed, meaning they will host a regional and, if they advance, a Super Regional at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Texas Tech (36-15) is scheduled to take on Army (28-23) in its first contest of the best of three Lubbock regional at 11 a.m. Friday and be televised on ESPNU and streamed online on the ESPN app.
The other contest pits North Carolina (27-25) and UCLA (35-18) at 6 p.m. Friday, which will also be broadcast on ESPNU with the winner of the regional taking on the victor in the Stanford regional.
The four teams comprised in the Stanford regional are North Dakota State (41-17), Nevada (25-18), UC Irvine (40-16) and the Cardinal (33-14).
With the announcement Sunday, Texas Tech became the only team in the country to host an NCAA Regional for the fifth straight tournament. It also marked the first time in school history Tech has hosted five straight times and the eighth overall.
Last season, spring sports — including college baseball — were cut short and canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Red Raiders have competed in regional action in Lubbock in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Season Ticket holders and Red Raider club members may request tickets online at TexasTech.com and have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to request all-session tickets to the regional.
Tech is offering only all-session passes at this time, according to a news release. If seats remain following the season ticket holder/Red Raider Club priority request period, all remaining all-session tickets will go on sale to the general public at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Season ticket holders/Red Raider Club members who held reserved parking for the 2021 season are encouraged to hold on to those passes as they will be valid throughout the postseason. Tech will also offer complimentary parking in the commuter lots located near Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park similar to the regular season.
In addition, Tech has held 300 complimentary seats for students. Ticket information will be emailed to students on Tuesday. Only students who paid the athletic fee in the spring semester are eligible for the student tickets.
