Customers urged to do their homework to make the most of deep Memorial Day reductions – WPXI

PITTSBURGH — With COVID-19 restrictions lifting, shoppers are out in force, looking for good deals.

”It’s fun to go out and shop a little bit, feeling less scared of everything. Nice to be able to do that. Last Memorial Day, I did not have that feeling,” said Amanda Rotharmel, holiday shopper.

Whether in-person or online, the best deals can be found for shoppers searching for mattresses, bedding, beauty products and clothing.

“Many outlets are offering at least 25% off, while some, like Nordstrom, which just launched its half-yearly sale, are offering up to 50% off.

”You got to get the good deals. They all over the news, so thanks to you all for putting it out there for us. There’s deals everywhere. Come out and shop people,” said Eric Thatcher, holiday shopper.

Traditionally, Memorial Day is one of the best times to buy appliances. And, shoppers can find sales; but, with COVID-19 shortages and shipping delays, markdowns are not as deep as in the past.

As for furniture sales, you can find savings, but beware of potential delays in getting your merchandise.

Channel 11 spoke to one shopper who shared her strategy to save money.

”First of all, I am gonna go online and compare prices online to the store,” said Lyzel Mamaril, holiday shopper.

Consumer advocates say that is a very smart move.

Shoppers should compare prices and use online tools like Capital One’s browser extension or the Honey App, both of which automatically help you find the best deal.

Another important tip if you are buying online: never checkout without looking for a coupon code.

Memorial Day is also a good time for car buyers to search for deals, but with new and used car prices surging more than 20% from 2020 due to a global computer chip shortage and increasing demand; consumer advocates urge shoppers to do their research, including looking for the best prices for a make and model.

Also, shoppers are urged to move fast, because the vehicle you want might be gone if you don’t make your move.

On the positive side, if you have a trade-in, you should be able to get top dollar for your vehicle, which you can put toward your new ride.
