The Recorder – Bulletin Board: Lauren Ross tosses shutout as Franklin Tech softball blanks Westfield Tech

Lauren Ross pitched a gem, and the Franklin Tech softball team remained perfect atop the Tri-County League North on Saturday.

Ross struck out seven over seven innings, scattering three hits with no walks as the Eagles blanked Westfield Tech, 5-0, in TCL action in Turners Falls.

The Eagles (8-2, 7-0) led 2-0 into the fifth inning, when they scored a pair of runs to give Ross a more comfortable cushion.

Kaitlin Trudeau was 2-for-3 to pace the Franklin Tech offense. Faith Smith, Emily Eastman and Lilly Ross all had a hit and an RBI in the win, while Mackenzie Martel, Lauren Ross and Lillian Day added singles.


CCG Senior Championship

Scott Cote bested the field over the weekend at the Country Club of Greenfield, which held its Senior Club Championship in scorching temperatures.

Cote’s two-round total of 142 (70-72) was enough to give him the overall title.

Jason Kelton posted the low net score of the weekend, going 73-70—143.

Diane Carme took the overall title on the women’s side, where she shot rounds of 82 and 78 for a total of 160. Elaine Goodhind was the net champion (73-65—138).

Flighted winners on the men’s side included Dave Kennedy (Mickelson Flight, 143), Rick Sigda (Langer Flight, 143) and Terry Blanchard (Watson Flight, 152). Mike Archer (145), Pat Grogan (147) and John Varner (144) were the net champs in those respective flights.

Teresa Varner had the low gross in the Inkster Flight (170), while Gail Miller had the low gross in the Rankin Flight (183). Barb Killeen (146) and Alane Smith (156) were low net champs.

Youth baseball

Greenfield 12U wins district tourney

Aiden Shea was 3-for-3 while Rowan Muzzy, Arthur Fitzpatrick and Juleyen Laughran-Carter all added two hits apiece to lift Greenfield past Mohawk, 12-9, on Sunday in the championship game of the Cal Ripken 12U District Tournament at Lunt Field.

Greenfield advanced to the state tournament with the win, capping a perfect 3-0 weekend in the district tournament. The club opened with a 6-2 win over Mohawk on Friday, where Evan Tsipenyuk struck out five in a complete game effort on the mound. Shea had a double while Caleb Dillensneider and George Gutierrez added hits.

On Saturday, Shea threw a complete game shutout while allowing only two hits in an 8-0 win over Hadley. Tsipenyuk went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the offense while Jackson Glazier also added a double.


Ethan Burgh nearly went the distance, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit to lift Rotary Club to a 5-0 win over Aubuchon Hardware in a GMLB contest Saturday at Lunt Field.

Burgh was also 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the offense for Rotary, while teammates DaSean “Diggy” Carter, Levi Dunn (triple) and Aaron Meuse all had hits.

Aubuchon’s Kooper Leger recorded a hit and Clayton Massa played well defensively.

Elsewhere, the Winslow twins were raking for Liberty Tax in a 19-14 win over Bobby C’s DJ Service.

Collin Winslow hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning and Sean Winslow led off the bottom of the second with a home run of his own. The duo also hit back-to-back triples in the third inning, as they combined to go 7-for-8 at the plate in the win.

Evemarie Page had four hits for Liberty, while Greg Broen was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.

Lucy Burnap and Fred Burnap each had three hits for Bobby C’s, while Quest Petersen smacked two hits, including a home run.

In action from Friday, AJ Monserrate and Ian Degen had four hits apiece as Fitzgerald Real Estate defeated Ruggeri Real Estate, 17-9.

Eli Skinder scored three runs and Andrew Quintana had three hits and two RBIs for Fitzgerald’s, while Ruggeri’s Emerson Maxam had three hits, inc luding a double. Brothers Quincy and Oliver Audet each contributed two hits and Parker Stacy had a hit and RBI.

Mohawk Youth

Skyler Steele clubbed a grand slam as Bath Fitter scored a 20-7 win over Delta Sand & Gravel in action Saturday night.

Cyrus Cranston had two hits for Bath Fitter, while Seamus Collins had a hit and scored a run.

Delt a’s Ronnie Bagdon singled and doubled. Patrick Beeltje added a pair of hits and Evan Maio and Leland Murphy each had a single.
