EUGENE, Ore. – Georgia Tech women’s jumper Bria Matthews earned all-American honors in the women’s long jump finals at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday evening.

Matthews leapt for a mark of 6.58m/21′ 7.25″ on her sixth attempt to finish fourth overall in the field. That ties the seniors personal best effort to close out her last collegiate long jump competition. The jump ties her current school record. It is also the highest she has ever finished at national championships. This is the fifth time she has earned all-American honors. It is the 68th time a Tech women’s track & field athlete has earned all-American status since Alan Drosky took over as head coach in 1996.

Following what may have arguably been the best long jump performance in her career, Matthews will return to the field on Saturday to compete in the women’s triple jump finals at 6:20 p.m. (EST). She will be joined by distance runner Nicole Fegans, who will toe the line for the women’s 5K at 7:55 p.m. (EST).

The entirety of the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships will be streamed live on ESPN3.

According to the final NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List Matthews is ranked No. 9 (13.61m/44′ 8″) in the triple jump, while Fegans owns the No. 14 mark in the nation in the women’s 5K at 15:37.16.
