With exactly one week left until Prime Day 2021, it’s time to start finalizing your shopping list. If you go into the 48-hour savings event with a plan, you’re less likely to get sucked in by an enticing markdown on an air fryer or TV you don’t need. And to formulate your wish list, it’s helpful to consider which types of items typically have the best Prime Day deals—and which ones you’re better off waiting until Black Friday or another shopping holiday to pick up. After all, not every deal you find on Prime Day is a good deal.
To help you find the products you’ll want to add to your cart, we’ve put together this guide based on Amazon Prime Day discount trends from years past. Below, find seven deals worth shopping on Prime Day (plus three we think you should probably skip).
What To Buy On Prime Day
Some of the best Prime Day deals typically center around Amazon devices, which have been marked down to almost half off in previous years. Right now, you can already get two Echo Dots for the price of one with promo code PDDOT2PK as well as save up to 57% on the retail giant’s Fire TVs and smart home devices. All that makes us think that during the actual sale, we may see these devices discounted by 60% or more.
Get your floors to practically clean themselves by investing in a robot vacuum. Most models are now app compatible and even respond to Alexa voice commands, meaning you can instruct them to start sucking up dirt, dust and pet hair without even having to get up from the couch. During Prime Day 2020, we saw steep discounts on Roombas and Eufys, and if the 40% off deal above is any indication, you can expect the same this year.
One of the best things to buy on Prime Day is a new smartwatch. Last year, we saw major markdowns on options from Fitbit, Samsung and Apple that were comparable to those you’d typically see around Black Friday. Amazon is already offering $30 off the Fitbit Versa 3 above, but we have a feeling its price may drop even lower once the sale officially starts.
If you’ve had your eye on one of Foreo’s high tech cleansing devices, or a NuFace facial toning kit, Amazon Prime Day is a good time to finally click “add to cart.” Historically, these devices have been offered at 20 to 30% off discounts during the sale, which is generally the most they ever get marked down. So even if you hold out until the next Sephora sale, you’re unlikely to see a better deal than Amazon’s.
An Audible Premium Plus Membership
One of the best Prime Day deals we’ve seen so far this year is this Audible Premium Plus membership discount, where you can get your first four months for 53% off. Amazon usually offers its best Audible deals of the year during Prime Day, and 2021 is proving to be no different. With a Premium Plus membership, you can get access to a selection of Audible-exclusive audiobooks and podcasts, 30% off premium selection titles and a credit for a free audiobook each month.
It seems like there are air fryer deals happening just about every weekend, but during Amazon Prime Day, you can expect major discounts. We should see markdowns as much as 40 to 50% off in some cases, which is definitely something you want to take advantage of. Otherwise, you’ll likely have to wait until the holiday shopping season to nab the appliance you want at a similar price.
Core 10 Activewear
Prime Day fashion deals are hard to predict, but you’re pretty much guaranteed to see discounts on Amazon’s private label brands, including its Core 10 activewear line. Our advice? Add some of the brand’s sports bras, bike shorts and leggings to your cart now, then wait until Prime Day for their prices to drop before completing your purchase.
Which Deals To Skip On Prime Day
Unless you need a new TV ASAP, we don’t suggest buying one during the Amazon sale. If you’re willing to be patient, you’ll see much better TV deals around Black Friday and Super Bowl Sunday.
A quick look at the price history of a few Instant Pots on CamelCamelCamel reveals that you’ll find better deals on Instant Pots closer to the holidays. In some cases, the lowest prices even surface post-Black Friday—in early December.
If you’re looking to score an awesome deal on a treadmill, elliptical or spin bike, you probably won’t find it on Prime Day. Amazon usually offers slight markdowns on workout machines, but to find a really great discount, you’re better off waiting for a sale on one of the equipment brands’ sites.
