Just days after California cornerback DJ Harvey enrolled at Virginia Tech, the Hokies hosted another four-star prospect out of the West Coast.
Class of 2023 Top247 quarterback Pierce Clarkson (Bellflower, CA/St. John Bosco) visited Virginia Tech unofficially on Monday after stops at North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, and Wake Forest.
“It was definitely a different environment than I am used to, but I really liked it,” the 6-foot quarterback said. “It was definitely a good experience to see the campus, see the facilities, and meet with the coaches.
“I talked to a few of the players and the coaching staff, and it is really a family there. There is a lot of history at that school and the program.”
One of the players Clarkson spoke with was Harvey, who arrived on campus earlier this month after signing with the Hokies out of Sierra Canyon High School.
“I talked to him right after I took some pictures. He came down to the field and we talked a little bit. He is a guy I played against this past spring season, so it was good seeing him.”
He also spent time talking with Virginia Tech Head Coach Justin Fuente.
“We were able to talk and it was good to be able to talk to him and get a chance to get to know him a little bit. He was good.”
Later, he joined Brad Cornelsen to go over the offense.
“We sat down for about 30 minutes and talked some ball,” Clarkson explained. “We watched some clips from the offense and had a little intro into the offense.
“From what we talked about and the film we watched, it seems like they are really good at catering to their quarterback’s strengths and that is really good. From what I watched with them, it definitely seems like something that could fit me.”
Clarkson plans to visit Indiana and Louisville before returning to California to focus on his upcoming season.
“Right now, everybody has a fair chance to get me. I am giving each program a look and just trying to find the best fit for me. Location for me isn’t a big deal. I have zero preference to anywhere. If it is the East Coast, it’s the East Coast. If it’s the West Coast, it’s the West Coast. It really doesn’t play a factor in my recruitment.”
