Brennan is the first athlete to repeat as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 12 years
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA– Savannah Brennan of the Florida Tech women’s swimming team has been named the 2020-21 Sunshine State Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This is the second year in a row she has received the award.
Voting for the award is conducted among Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from the 11 SSC member institutions.
Brennan is the first athlete to repeat as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 12 years, joining Shyla Rider (Softball – 2007-08 & 2008-09) and Greta Trotman (Tennis – 2004-05 & 2005-06) from Barry University as well as the University of Tampa’s Dawn Rawlings (Volleyball – 1996-97 & 1998-99).
She remains the first swimmer and third Florida Tech student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since conference administrators established the award in 1995-96. Previous Panthers to win the honor were: Kari Wanat (Volleyball – 1999-00) and Marina DeBiasi (Cross Country – 2017-18).
Brennan, a junior and captain of the swim team, holds a 3.97-grade point average while double majoring in Genomics and Molecular Genetics, and Biomedical Science. Additionally, she is minoring in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
Brennan, a native of Oviedo, Florida, was named 2020-21 Outstanding Student of the Year for Florida Tech’s Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences.
In addition, Brennan also captured 2020-21 Distinguished Student Scholar for completing more than 55 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher.
The captain has earned every CSCAA Scholar All-American, SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, and Dean’s List award she has been eligible for during her career.
Brennan has served as Secretary for Florida Tech’s Chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since August 2018. She has also served as President for Florida Tech’s Chapter of Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society since August 2017.
In the pool, Brennan has had a remarkable career with the Panthers so far. Brennan was named 2019-2020 CSCAA All-American, All-SSC First Team (2019-20), and All-Second Team (2018-19).
She has qualified for NCAA Championships for three consecutive years. In addition, Brennan has been Florida Tech Female Swimmer of the Year every year since 2017.
Also in the pool, Brennan had an impressive 2021 season setting two school records in the 400 IM (4:20.77, DII B-Cut) and 500 Free (4:57.03, DII B-Cut).
The captain also became the first female swimmer to score points at an NCAA Championship event in program history.
Brennan currently holds six school records in individual events and four relay records along with her teammates.
