Texas Tech pitcher Patrick Monteverde has signed with the Miami Marlins, who selected him in the eighth round of last week’s Major League Baseball draft.

Monteverde tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Marlins’ jersey while signing paperwork. Jim Callis, a senior writer for MLB Pipeline, reported that Monteverde signed for $50,000, below the assigned slot value of $173,000 for the 239th overall pick.

Monteverde went 7-4 with a 3.75 earned-run average this year, leading the Red Raiders in wins, starts (16), innings pitched (86 1/3) and strikeouts (101).

The senior lefthander advanced over the course of his career from playing Division III baseball at Virginia Wesleyan to Division II with Seton Hill to Division I at Tech.
